Atlanta Smog Alert Statistics for 2008

Note: This information is published as soon as the values are detected, and does not imply that the data have passed quality assurance validation procedures. If no forecasts were made during a given month, that month is omitted from the calendar below.

In the calendar view below, the upper left of the date field represents the forecast AQI (by color) and the lower right of the date field represents the observed max AQI (by color). For more information about the AQI and AQI colors, see Information about the Air Quality Index (AQI).

*  A "Smog Alert" does not necessarily mean an exceedance of Federal Air Quality Standards, but is issued to best protect the public health. Forecasts are issued for both Ozone and Particulate Matter. A complete list of Exceedances of Federal Air Quality Standards in Georgia is also available.

Important! In March 2008, EPA strengthened the air quality standards for ground-level ozone, a primary component of smog. These new standards mean that lower levels of ozone will now be reported as unhealthy in the daily smog forecasts and in the Air Quality Index (AQI). This website reflects this change.
